Brace yourself for the longest day of the year

Summer Solstice 2024 is observed on June 21, marking the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year.

In Karachi, the day will last for 13 hours and 41 minutes, while the night will be 10 hours and 19 minutes long. This is significantly longer than the December solstice, where the day length is around 10 hours and 33 minutes​

Similarly, in the federal capital, the day will stretch to 14 hours and 32 minutes, with the night being 9 hours and 28 minutes long. This provides almost four hours more daylight compared to the winter solstice.

In Lahore, the day will last for approximately 14 hours and 12 minutes. The sunrise will be at 4:57 AM, and the sunset at 7:09 PM. The night duration will be around 9 hours and 48 minutes.

After July 1, the length of daylight will start to decrease gradually until the autumn equinox on September 22, when day and night durations are nearly equal. The process will continue until the winter solstice on December 22, which marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
