Football: Berbatov seeks new contract

Has been threatening to run down his United deal and leave on a free transfer at season’s end.

MANCHESTER:
Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov is set for talks over a new contract this month. The striker, who is out of contract next June, has been threatening to run down his United deal and leave on a free transfer at season’s end. Berbatov, who earns £80,000 per week, is demanding a two-year extension to his contract on improved terms of £120,000 a week, but United are reluctant to meet his demands as the striker has found himself out of favour with manager Alex Ferguson of late.
