Kourtney Kardashian reflects on ‘terrifying’ fetal surgery before baby Rocky's birth
Kourtney Kardashian Barker is sharing details about the ‘terrifying’ fetal surgery she underwent last summer.
In this week's episode of ‘The Kardashians’, the 45-year-old Lemme co-founder discussed the emergency surgery she had before welcoming her son, Rocky Thirteen, with husband Travis Barker, 48.
As Kardashian Barker prepared to give birth during the episode, she looked back at the frightening experience.
"A couple months ago, we had a terrifying scare where I had to have emergency fetal surgery," she explained in a confessional.
The episode then showed Kardashian Barker recovering from the procedure.
"Baby Rocky had to have fetal surgery for fluid in his lung," she said. "And it's super rare, that this [is] the condition that he had but it's also super rare and lucky that we caught it. And thank you, God, for this successful surgery. I'm honestly just so grateful, I have no words."
Reflecting on the experience, Kardashian Barker admitted she was filled with fear after the surgery.
"I was definitely filled with fear after the surgery and the fluid in his lungs. Actually, it did start coming back and then I watched this documentary called ‘Heal’ that was all about the power of positive thinking and how our thinking can really affect our health," she shared.
She continued, "And then I started talking to the baby every day, saying my prayers, and after I had that mindset shift, the fluid was completely gone and we had not one single problem after."
In last week's episode, Kardashian Barker revealed her scar from the surgery during a maternity shoot.
“I have a scar from my surgery where they went into my amniotic sac so I'm like a fragile little egg," she explained.
Despite the challenges, Kardashian Barker made the most of the shoot, capturing as many pictures as possible before deciding against modeling a third look due to feeling tightness. “Once I laid down, I just felt like, that's it. I'm gonna listen to my body. There's no reason to push this. Obviously, my health and the baby's health come first,’” she said in a confessional.
New episodes of *The Kardashians* are released every Thursday at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu.
