Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to ensure compliance with the officially prescribed transport fares during the return of passengers after the culmination of Eid holidays.
She directed the authorities to launch a crackdown against those overcharging fares from the passengers.
The chief minister called for ensuring refund of extra fares found charged from the passengers along with imposing fine on the bus staff.
CM Maryam Nawaz said, “The fitness of vehicles should be checked and vehicles which need repair should not be permitted to ply on the roads under any circumstance as it may result in putting the lives of passengers in danger.”
She added, “Overloading of the vehicles should not be allowed on any route.”
She directed the authorities to ensure complete compliance with the traffic rules.
On the directives of the chief minister, an operation was launched to ensure reduction of the transport fares.
The district administration officials initiated checking and inquired about the transport fares by visiting the bus stands in Khanewal, Multan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Layyah and other districts across Punjab. They enquired from the passengers about the transport fares and directed the bus staff not to overcharge the passengers under any circumstances.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also announced one additional monthly salary to the staff as reward for performing their duties during a three-day special cleanliness campaign on the Eidiul Azha.
The CM paid tribute to all the municipal institutions, waste management companies, the relevant officers and staff members over their performance on during the Eid cleanliness drive.
