LHC CJ meets CJ Isa prior to new SC role

JCP approves LHC CJ Malik Shahzad Ahmad's nomination as SC judge by five-to-four majority

ISLAMABAD:

Against the backdrop of questioning the security establishment’s alleged interfere in judicial functions, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan on Saturday met with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.

The meeting was held in the premises of the Supreme Court and lasted for almost two hours. Although no details have come out about the agenda of meeting, sources said pleasantries were exchanged between the two judges.

It must be noted that the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) by a majority of five to four has approved the nomination of LHC CJ Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan as an SC judge.

The Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment has also approved his nomination. The notification for his appointment is likely to be issued soon after Eidul Azha.

It is expected that the LHC CJ along with two other judges might be sworn in next week. After Justice Shahzad’s speech on Friday, a social media smear campaign has been launched against him.

Justice Shahzad has left a mark as a courageous chief justice of the LHC and is expected to carry on this reputation in his new role in the SC as well.
