Tailoring prices shoot up during Eid season

Citizens opt for sustainable option of re-wearing old suits

As Eidul Azha approaches and citizens rush to get their Eid necessities including dresses and various accessoriesa, tailors in Cantt area have taken the opportunity to increase sewing prices.

The cost of stitching a shalwar kameez suit has increased from Rs1,500 to Rs 1,700. Specifically, the price for single stitching is now Rs 1,500 and Rs1,700 for double stitching per suit. Interestingly, fewer citizens have opted for sewing services this Eidul Azha compared to Eidul Fitr.

According to the Vice President of Tailors Welfare Union Rawalpindi, Farooq Ahmed, it is common for stitching demand to surge during the Eid season, but this Eidul Azha the demand for suit stitching has fallen by 50 per cent in comparison to Eidul Fitr.

Feroz Abbasi and Khadim Hussain, citizens looking to shop for Eid pointed out that the cost of a new suit ranges from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500 while tailoring services cost between Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,700. Due to their low income, they have opted to wear the suits they got made for Eidul Fitr again instead of going for new clothes.
