LAHORE:

Anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan has been released by Sarwar Road police after being discharged from two FIRs by magisterial courts on consecutive days. The FIRs accused him of breaching trust and interfering in state matters.

“Registration of cases or even making arrests does not matter to me, but being restrained from performing Hajj hurt me deeply,” said Imran Riaz Khan upon his release.

The magisterial courts found the cases against him to lack evidence and ruled the accusations as unfounded. Requests for further physical remand by the Investigation Officers (IOs) were denied.

Imran Riaz’s counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, opposed the IOs’ requests for physical remand, arguing that the cases were fabricated to prevent Khan from performing Hajj.

He asserted that his client had no involvement in the charges.

The FIR alleged that an oral contract for the sale and purchase of immovable property had been breached, with the complainant claiming to have paid Rs25 million as earnest money. The accused allegedly failed to deliver property files in DHA (Phase-9) Lahore.

Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Kamran Zaffar, upon reviewing the case, found no evidence to support the accusation of entrustment.

He noted that the material presented lacked the necessary elements to constitute an offense under section 406 of the PPC.
