DSP stoops to looting paan shop
With the level of professional integrity stooping to its lowest, a grade 17 gazetted police officer was arrested for looting a paan shop.
Police have arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police Zafar Javed and his son Fahad for the famous Gulshan-e-Iqbal paan shop heist. Police sources said that Fahad committed robberies at the behest of his father.
The CCTV footage of cops in plain clothes looting a paan shop had gone viral on social media. Subsequently, the city police chief ordered an inquiry.
Following investigations into the brazen paan shop heist by men in civvies riding a police mobile, the complainant has recognised a police officer, DSP Zafar Javed, as the main suspect.
In the due course of inquiry, the complainant, Shah Zeb, identified DSP Zafar Javed as the perpetrator. At the time of the incident, the DSP's son, Fahad, was also present, along with two policemen who fled the scene in a police van allotted to the DSP two years ago. Raids are underway to arrest them, police sources confirmed.

ources reveal that police investigators were trying to save DSP Javed, but there was pressure from the higher authorities for a fair inquiry.
The viral video of the police van has made it easier for investigators to trace Javed. The mobile allocated to SHO Aqeel Ahmed has been seized.
Sources said that although DSP Javed has been arrested, conviction is very difficult.
Last month, a sessions court acquitted for lack of evidence former South SSP Imran Qureshi, DSP Umair Tariq Bajari and others in a case about a robbery that was committed in the guise of a police raid at the house of a trader in Orangi Town.
Another stark example is that of the extrajudicial murder of Naqueebullah Mehsud. In January 2023, a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) acquitted 18 suspects, including former Malir SSP Rao Anwar Ahmed Khan and DSP Qamar Ahmed in the high-profile Naqeebullah murder case.
