Kate Winslet and James Cameron have put to rest rumours of a feud that allegedly began after filming ‘Titanic.’

Speculation of a rift resurfaced when the duo reunited for the sci-fi sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water.’ Despite Winslet's past comments suggesting she would never work with Cameron again after their 1997 blockbuster, both have now clarified their relationship.

"There was never a rift between us," Cameron told Variety. "She had a little postpartum depression when she let go of Rose. She and I have talked about the fact that she goes really, really deep, and her characters leave a lasting, sometimes dramatic impression on her."

‘Titanic,’ which swept the 1998 Oscars including best picture and best director, starred Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, a woman who falls in love with Leonardo DiCaprio's character Jack Dawson aboard the ill-fated ship. Reflecting on the past, Winslet expressed regret that rumours overshadowed their true relationship. "There's a part of me that feels almost sad that stupid, speculative Titanic stuff at the time overshadowed the actual relationship I have with him," she said. "He knows I will be up for anything."

Cameron also revealed initial hesitation in casting Winslet, who was dubbed "corset Kate" for her roles in period dramas. "It seemed like lazy casting. She even sent me a single rose and said, 'I have to be your Rose'. Wiser heads prevailed, and I could see what everybody was talking about. She's very alive, with a spark of life," he remarked.

Currently, Cameron is in the cutting room working on the next ‘Avatar’ instalment, where Winslet will reprise her role as Metkayina matriarch Ronal.

The original ‘Avatar’ from 2009 remains the highest-grossing film ever and won three Oscars for its visual effects, cinematography, and art direction.
