The latest episode of The View took a sharp turn into current political events as the hosts addressed Hunter Biden’s recent conviction.
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, was found guilty on three felony gun charges related to falsifying drug use on a 2018 firearm application.
The conviction comes amid heated discussions around political fairness and the justice system.
Moderator Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion by critiquing conservative pundits who claim the judicial processes are politically motivated, especially concerning former President Donald Trump's recent trials.
"Do y'all not live here anymore? Do you not know how this is supposed to work? Am I crazy?" Goldberg challenged the audience and critics.
Legal expert Sunny Hostin elaborated on the simplicity of proving Hunter's case, highlighting the rarity of such cases going to trial and suggesting political motivations might be perceived, though she personally viewed the trial as just.
“He committed a crime, and now he will pay the consequences,” Hostin asserted, hinting at a tougher road ahead for Hunter with his upcoming tax trial in Los Angeles.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a Republican commentator and former aide to Mike Pence and Donald Trump, pointed out that Hunter’s conviction undermines claims from MAGA supporters about a biased justice system targeting Republicans.
She emphasized, “It shows that no one is above the law — even the president's son.”
The discussion also touched on Hunter’s potential future steps, with speculation that he might seek a plea deal in his upcoming trial to mitigate further damage and allow his father to focus on the presidency without additional distractions.
In her closing remarks, Goldberg compared President Biden’s handling of the situation to Trump's response to his own legal challenges.
She summarized, “[Hunter] did not hurt anybody with that gun... he got caught, and now he's going to do whatever time he's supposed to do. It’s as it should be.”
Hunter Biden’s legal team, led by attorney Abbe Lowell, has expressed respect for the jury’s decision while planning to continue challenging the verdict legally.
Throughout his trials and personal struggles, Hunter remains supported by his family, as conveyed through his attorney's statement.
