‘14,000 schools without water in Sindh’
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah revealed that there are 14,000 schools in Sindh that do not have drinking water facilities, while 38 primary schools in Karachi lack washroom facilities.
"The government installs solar panels in schools, but they are stolen after a few days," he said answering various written and supplementary questions regarding the education department at the Sindh Assembly session on Wednesday.
The leader of the opposition Ali Khursheedi said that there will be no politics on the issue of education. "We are ready to provide all kinds of cooperation for education." The Sindh Assembly session started 30 minutes late under the chairmanship of Jameel Soomro. The House passed the Gorakh Hill Amendment Bill during its proceedings.
During the session, there was a heated discussion on the adjournment motion on gas load shedding in Sindh and the members also raised the issue of water shortage in Karachi in their attention notice.
Improving public transport
During the proceedings in the assembly, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government wants to provide comfortable transportation facilities to the citizens of Karachi. People's Bus Service is being started in Manghopir.
"We will operate buses in every area of Sindh." Some new routes have been started. The routes of EV buses have also been expanded. He said that there is an inflation storm in the country.
Providing relief to the people is the priority of the People's Party. Sharjeel Memon said that the Orange Line has been prepared. Work on the Red Line was stalled, which we have resumed as soon as we came to power. He complained that not a single brick was laid on the Red Line project due to the incompetence of the care taker government.
The performance of the caretaker government was zero, but as soon as we came into power, we started work again. There should be a passion for work. He has informed the house that the work of Yellow Line has also started. The Transport Department is working. The transport minister said that their wish is to have buses running in every street.
Various attention-drawing notices were also presented during the proceedings of the House. MQM member Rehan Akram drew attention to the issue of water scarcity in North Karachi and New Karachi. He said that if the supply of water is not fair and better, disputes will escalate.
