West Indies Women secure narrow victory
Hosts secure 1-0 lead over Pakistan in T20 series.
Pakistan Women suffered the narrowest of losses against West Indies Women, losing the rain-hit first Twenty20 by one run.
The match was reduced to 18 overs a side as Pakistan chose to field first. For the West Indies, opener Stafanie Taylor was the top-scorer, making 24 runs, with none of the other batters making a substantial contribution as the Pakistan bowlers made regular inroads into the hosts’ batting line-up.
Qanita Jalil and Nida Dar shared two wickets apiece as Sadia Yousuf and Sana Mir snared a scalp each to restrict the hosts to 90 for eight.
In a rain-marred chase, none of the Pakistan batters could get going either. The visitors lost their first wicket with only three on the board and soon found themselves faltering at 20 for two and later 34 for three.
Nain Abidi (21*) and Bismah Maroof (10*) then combined for a 22-run partnership, the highest of the innings, but the West Indies bowlers were able to restrict the visitors to 56 for 3 in 11 overs, as they fell just one short of the Duckworth/Lewis target.
Pearl Etienne and Anisa Mohammed ended up with a wicket each for the West Indies.
