Viral videos of House of the Dragon Westeros banners on New York debunked as FAKE

The video shows two green banners featuring a gold crest from one of the iconic stone towers on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Videos circulating online purportedly displaying banners from the HBO series "House of the Dragon" on the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges have been confirmed as fake.

As per the Associated Press, there are no banners observed hanging from either bridge, as confirmed by a reporter who visited the area on Monday.

The video circulating online captures a view of the Brooklyn Bridge from Plymouth Street, situated between Dock Street and New Dock Street in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood. Two sizable green banners featuring a gold crest are seen hanging from one of the iconic stone towers on the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

A caption on the clip declares, “BREAKING: Westeros Banners have been raised around NYC.”

In a separate video, two black banners displaying a red crest are seen suspended from the Manhattan Bridge tower nearest to Brooklyn.

A reporter from the Associated Press visited the location where both videos were recorded and verified that no banners were hanging from either bridge. Additionally, it seems that the first video was recorded during colder weather, as the trees and bushes visible in the foreground, which were previously bare, are now lush with green foliage.

Vincent Barone, a spokesperson for the New York City Department of Transportation, told the AP that the agency is “not aware of these banner displays” and that the footage seems to be “digitally altered.”

The "Game of Thrones" X account posted both videos, along with comparable images of landmarks from around the globe. A New York tourism Instagram account shared the initial video, tagging it as a "paid partnership" with "House of the Dragon."

Despite the fabricated nature of the videos, they have sparked considerable excitement for the forthcoming season of House of The Dragon, scheduled for streaming on HBO Max starting June 16th.
