KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to concerned parties while hearing a petition filed by the Karachi Bar Association against the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and mobile companies for the persistent disruptions in the mobile network and internet service at the City Court.

A two-member bench, headed by SHC Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi, admitted the petition for hearing and served notices to all mobile companies, including the PTA, to submit their replies by June 27.

Amir Nawaz Waraich, President of the Karachi Bar Association, stated that despite repeated attempts to address the issue with mobile companies, there has been no improvement in the situation. He underlined the need for upgrading mobile towers covering the City Court area, saying that the companies have expressed readiness to extend all necessary support.

The ongoing disruption of mobile network and internet service in the City Court has severely impacted legal proceedings, with lawyers unable to communicate with their clients and vice versa. This has caused inconvenience to litigants and citizens alike, hindering access to legal assistance and essential services. Moreover, interruptions in internet service have also been reported around the premises of the Sindh High Court.
