Taylor Swift, years before writing the breakout track from "The Tortured Poets Department," found herself actually screaming, "But daddy, I love him!" to her father, Scott.

In an interview with PopSugar in 2008 which recently resurfaced, the ‘Lover’ singer recalled an argument she had with her father over her choice of partner.

“This song, I wrote it right after my one epic teenage tantrum that I ever threw in my whole life,” she said while revealing the inspiration behind “Love Story” from her second album, “Fearless.”

“And I remember screaming something like ‘But daddy, I love him!’ and running out and storming into my room and slamming the door and then I sat down on the floor and wrote this song,” said the ‘Blank Space’ singer.

On the song, she sings, “Now I’m running with my dress unbuttoned / Screaming ‘But Daddy I love him!’ / I’m having his baby / No, I’m not, but you should see your faces.”

In her lyrics, Taylor portrays a forbidden romance with a man whom she shares intense "chemistry" with, despite facing disapproval from her parents and the “people in town.”

Following the song's release, numerous fans speculated that Swift was hinting at her brief relationship with Matty Healy, as she also sang about being a "wild child" to her "wild boy."

Taylor Swift is currently dating Travis Kelce, the couple took their romance public in September 2023 after privately dating for a few months.
