Haripur police resolve mystery murder case

The police successfully recovered the 9mm pistol used in the crime from the accused

HARIPUR:

The Khanpur police Monday claimed to have resolved a blind murder case, apprehending the suspects and seizing the weapon used in the crime.

During a media briefing, Haripur SP Investigation Jamilur Rehman, Khanpur DSP Muhammad Uzair along with other police officials disclosed that on May 16, 2024, Khanpur police station recovered a body from Khanpur Dam. The incident was promptly publicised on social media to facilitate identification, leading to the registration of a case against an unidentified perpetrator under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Subsequently, an investigative team was formed to apprehend the culprits. The victim was identified as Saqib Shehzad, a resident of Loser Sharfoo, Wah Taxila. On May 18, a case was registered at Wah Saddar police station against the accused, including Adnan Mazhar under Section 365 PPC, based on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Muhammad Nazir.

A breakthrough occurred on May 30 when the complainant accused Hamza Aziz and Adnan Mazhar of murdering his brother. Utilising modern techniques, the police apprehended Aziz and Mazhar on suspicion. During interrogation, the accused confessed to a motive for the crime, revealing that they attempted to rob Shehzad during which an altercation ensued, resulting in his brutal murder. The perpetrators disposed of the body in the water in Khanpur Dam.

The police successfully recovered the 9mm pistol used in the crime from the accused. Further investigation was under way.
