The Kendrick Lamar show that sparked a musical friendship between Griff and Taylor Swift

English pop star Griff is set to open for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in London on June 22nd, but the exciting news was actually a long time in the making. Griff reveals that Taylor Swift first hinted at the invitation during a Kendrick Lamar concert in November 2022.

"I bumped into Taylor at a Kendrick Lamar concert in London. It was surreal," Griff recalls. "We spoke a little, and she mentioned that at some point she would love to have me [as an opener on tour one day]. I was dying."

The "Miss Me Too" singer was thrilled, especially since she had previously met Swift backstage at the 2021 BRIT Awards. The anticipation grew when Swift shared Griff's song "Vertigo" on her Instagram story months later.

Griff is particularly excited to perform "Vertigo" at the Eras Tour, knowing that Swift is a fan. She hasn't seen the tour yet, opting to experience it in person for the first time.

"It's pretty wild," Griff says of the opportunity to PEOPLE. "Fearless was the first album I remember falling in love with as a kid. I'm always so inspired by how she can have such a huge career but stay so close to the songwriting process."

Griff is "very excited" for the June 22nd show and feels "forever eternally grateful" to Swift and her fans for their warm welcome.
