Armed men kill policeman, injure another
A policeman was killed and another received serious injuries when unidentified bandits riding a motorcycle opened fire on them near Superhighway cattle market. ‘
The injured officers were taken to a nearby private hospital, where one of them, 36-year-old Muhammad Yasin, succumbed to his injuries. The other injured officer, 28-year-old Salman Abbas, is undergoing treatment.
Both the police officials were deployed at the headquarters of East Zone police and were posted at Sachal police station. They were part of the security cordons established by the East Zone police to protect citizens visiting the cattle market to buy sacrificial animals.
SSP East Dr. Farrukh Raza said that an investigation into the incident is underway and the culprits will be arrested soon. He added that the police will not be intimidated by such incidents and will continue to take action against criminals.
The police found two bullet shells from the scene. Crime Scene Unit has been called in to investigate.
The SSP East further said that the police had established 29 security pickets in the area to protect citizens visiting the cattle market for purchase of sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eidul Azha.
The SSP East said that the area has seen various criminal incidents in the past, and the police had established pickets to prevent such incidents. The criminal elements were annoyed by the police presence and opened fire on the officers to clear they way to commit crime.
The body and the injured shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road for further legal proceedings.
However, according to the Sohrab Goth police, the martyred and injured police officials were deployed at the Police Headquarters East Saudabad and were sent to the Sachal police station for security duty at the cattle market. The martyred and injured police officers were on duty.
