Social media platforms, especially TikTok, have played a significant role in bridging the gap between African artists and the global audience.

The app has been instrumental in popularising genres like Afrobeats and Amapiano, leading to the inclusion of a new category for 'Best African Music Performance' at the Grammy Awards.

Nigerian superstar Davido, whose music went viral on TikTok, exemplifies the platform's impact.

His album "Timeless" topped US iTunes charts, and his sold-out show at Madison Square Garden underscores the growing global appeal of African music.

However, TikTok's role is not without controversy. Disputes with record labels over royalties and concerns about data privacy have led to calls for a ban in the US.

While the app has democratised music discovery, its absence could hinder the careers of independent African artists who rely on its viral potential.

Despite this uncertainty, Davido told Dazed that he remains optimistic, stating that African music's global rise was inevitable.

Whether TikTok remains a key player or not, the world has awakened to the vibrant sounds of Africa, and there's no turning back.
