Garfield, the lasagna-loving feline, surprisingly dethroned Mad Max: Furiosa to reclaim the top spot at the box office this weekend.

Despite a slow summer for Hollywood, the animated film managed to rake in $14 million, bringing its domestic total to $51.6 million and global cume to $152.2 million.

In a surprising turn of events, Furiosa experienced a significant 59 percent drop, landing in third place with $10.75 million, raising concerns about its box office potential.

Meanwhile, IF, directed by John Krasinski, held its ground in second place with $10.8 million.

Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune: Part Two, voiced his disappointment with the lacklustre summer box office performance, even expressing his wish for other films to surpass his own success.

Rounding out the top five were Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Fall Guy.
