Rawalpindi bans use of polythene bags
Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Amir Khattak has said a complete ban on plastic shopping bags and one-use plastic would come into effect across Rawalpindi on June 5. He also warned of strict action against violations.
The commissioner informed the participants of a meeting that the plastic ban would come into effect on June 5 and that all assistant commissioners were directed to visit all markets and notify traders and citizens, serving as a warning, to comply with the regulations before the deadline so that no operation is required.
The office-bearers of the hotel and restaurant association welcomed the commissioner’s actions and affirmed that they would maintain their collaboration with the administration. The traders urged the commissioner to intensify operations towards anti-encroachment operations and begging in commercial markets.
The commissioner further said that inflation would not be allowed and zero tolerance policy had already been implemented in this regard. He directed the field formations to ensure the selling of roti Rs15 and zero encroachments in markets. The commissioner’s remarks came during separate meetings with the district administration and the hotel and restaurant association.
Khattak underlined the need for collective efforts to provide public relief through effective price control, encroachment operations, and other measures. “Our top priority is to promote economic activities by providing a conducive environment to the business community, and ensuring joint efforts to benefit the people.” He assured that no businessperson would be harassed unnecessarily, urging the traders to adhere to the official price list.
