Jessica Chastain lists historic Manhattan apartment up for sale
Jessica Chastain has listed her luxurious 4-bedroom apartment in the heart of Manhattan for $7.45 million, according to Sotheby's website.
Chastain and her husband purchased the property in 2015 from the famed Osborne Building, constructed in 1885. The apartment boasts "Gilded Age details" following a renovation by Architectural Digest designers Carrier and Company. A key feature is the Tiffany glass used throughout the space, credited as Louis Comfort Tiffany's first decorating job.
The listing highlights the meticulously restored living room with mahogany paneling, ornately carved doorways and windows, a bay window with leaded glass transoms, plaster crown moldings, oak parquet floors, high ceilings, and a wood-burning fireplace.
Another prominent feature is the parlor, designed with a framed oak doorway, pocket doors, a fireplace, and transitions seamlessly to the living room, library, and dining room. Raised and fielded paneling, pocket doors, leaded glass transoms, and oak flooring are consistent throughout these rooms.
The kitchen offers a 14-foot ceiling, a custom central island, a rolling ladder, ample storage with cabinets, and top-of-the-line appliances.
The primary bedroom includes an additional fireplace, mirrored closets, and an en-suite bathroom with a copper soaking tub, water closet, double sinks, a walk-in shower, and a built-in vanity. Two additional bedrooms and a full bathroom complete the space.
"For those who dream of creating the perfect stage set for the backdrop of their urban lives look no further," the Sotheby's description reads. The listing emphasizes the property's prestigious history, noting previous tenants including Adam Guettel, Bobby Short, and Leonard Bernstein.
In a 2017 interview with Architectural Digest, Chastain expressed her enthusiasm about the apartment's artistic lineage and the presence of five fireplaces, a feature she specifically requested during the search process.
Chastain is a renowned actress with a record of securing top-tier salaries for her work. She has won critical acclaim for her performances and took home the Best Actress Oscar in 2022 for her role in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye."
