Cristiano Ronaldo's signature 'SIUU' mimicked in pitch invasion at Champions League final
The UEFA Champions League 2023-24 final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium faced unexpected disruptions just seconds after kick-off due to multiple pitch invasions.
The match was briefly paused when individuals stormed the field, causing a stir among players and fans alike.
The first invader, wearing a black shirt, managed to take a photo with Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior, while Dortmund’s coach Edin Terzic displayed visible frustration over the interruption.
Moments later, another invader in a white shirt with “Mellstroy” emblazoned across it sprinted across the pitch, mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous 'SIUU' celebration, to the surprise of onlookers.
Security quickly intervened, corralling the invaders, one of whom was stopped by Dortmund player Marcel Sabitzer, as reported by TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher.
Despite their efforts, the disruptions led to a two-minute delay in the game, eliciting boos from the crowd.
A spokesperson from Wembley Stadium strongly condemned the invasion, stating, "It is illegal to enter the field of play at Wembley Stadium, and we strongly condemn the actions of those who interrupted the UEFA Champions League Final shortly after kick-off. All of the individuals have now been arrested."
The motive behind the invasions appears to be financially driven.
Reports have surfaced that social media influencer Mellstroy, known for his significant online following, had offered a £300,000 reward for the first person to successfully invade the pitch during the final.
Mellstroy, who boasts over 470,000 followers on Kick and more than three million on Instagram, has not yet publicly commented on the incident.
