Eminem name drops Megan Thee Stallion in his new single ‘Houdini’
Eminem has released the first single, "Houdini," from his highly anticipated 12th studio album, "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)." The track, featuring a sample from Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra," showcases Eminem's signature wit and controversial lyrics as he reflects on his past and present life.
The rapper has masterminded an elaborate rollout for the album, starting with a teaser video during the NFL draft in his hometown of Detroit. The video, styled like an episode of "Unsolved Mysteries," asked, "Who killed Slim Shady?" and hinted at his "rude and controversial antics" as a possible cause.
Eminem's new single "Houdini" is a throwback to his 2002 hit "Without Me," featuring similar singsong rhymes and a music video filled with celebrity cameos. The song begins with a skit where Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg, expresses his disapproval of the upcoming album. "Houdini" is produced by Eminem and Luis Resto, and samples Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" on the chorus.
The lyrics contain Eminem's signature controversial style, including references to Megan Thee Stallion's shooting incident, transgender individuals, and RuPaul. Eminem also takes aim at his own children, referring to them as "brats."
The music video for "Houdini" pays homage to the "Without Me" video, featuring a comic strip style and guest appearances from 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Alchemist, and more. The video depicts two versions of Eminem, one from 2002 and one from the present day, rapping along to the song.
Eminem further fueled speculation with a faux obituary for Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press, detailing his music's evolution and suggesting a tragic end for his alter ego.
With "Houdini" now available, fans eagerly await the summer release of "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" and the unravelling of the mystery surrounding Slim Shady's fate.
