PMD issues heatwave warning for Karachi

Says mercury likely to shoot past 42 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Friday

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted a three-day heatwave in the city from May 29 to May 31, during which temperatures may exceed 42 degrees Celsius.

A heatwave alert has been issued for Karachi, with the intense heat expected to last for three days. During this period, sea breezes will remain inactive, humidity levels will hover around 55%, and temperatures will remain high.

According to PMD, from Wednesday to Friday (May 29-31), maximum temperatures are expected to range between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Due to increased humidity, the heat may feel even more intense. On Monday, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 37.8 degrees Celsius, with a humidity level of 55%.

For today (Tuesday), the weather is expected to be hot and humid, with the possibility of strong winds. In various districts of rural Sindh, the heatwave continues, with temperatures recorded at 51.5 degrees Celsius in Mohenjo-Daro and 51 degrees Celsius in Larkana and Rohri.
