KARACHI:

Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that three major roads in Karachi will soon have their street lights converted to solar-powered lights. These roads include Sharae Faisal, Marine Drive Road, and Shahrah-e-Firdausi. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at his office on Monday.

Mayor Wahab stated that tenders have been issued for the installation of solar-powered street lights, and the project will be completed in collaboration with the Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK). He also mentioned plans to gradually convert other roads in Karachi to solar power.

The Mayor emphasized that transitioning the 106 major roads managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to solar power will save millions of rupees and help keep the city well-lit. He noted that power outages often leave some streets dark, causing inconvenience to the public.

Maintenance for the new solar-powered street lights will be arranged, with the supplying and installing company responsible for upkeep for the next five years.

Missing Children's Day

Mayor Murtaza Wahab stressed the importance of ensuring children's safety. He stated that KMC will raise public awareness about missing and exploited children to prevent the use of innocent children for begging. The city will collaborate with other organizations to recover missing children and eliminate exploitation efforts.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Roshni Helpline, led by Dr. Muhammad Ali, on the occasion of International Missing Children's Day. The delegation included students and administrators from various schools, and Deputy Parliamentary Leader of PPP in the City Council, Dil Muhammad, was also present.

Mayor Wahab announced that Roshni Helpline's emergency service 1138 will be integrated with KMC's helpline to enhance collaborative efforts. Dr. Muhammad Ali highlighted the long-standing work of Roshni Helpline in preventing child abductions and the crucial role of parents. He thanked Mayor Wahab for his support.

A cake-cutting ceremony marked the occasion, and the delegation was given a tour of KMC's historic building.
