Family of youngest Astroworld victim settles lawsuit with Travis Scott, Live Nation and Apple
The family of Ezra Blount, the 9-year-old who became the youngest victim of the Astroworld Festival tragedy, has reached a settlement in their lawsuit against rapper Travis Scott, Live Nation, and Apple.
This agreement follows similar settlements reached earlier this month with the families of the nine other victims who died during the crowd surge.
The terms of the settlements are confidential, and attorneys involved have declined comment due to gag orders.
In the aftermath of the Astroworld Festival, Scott had attempted to have the lawsuits against him dismissed, arguing that crowd safety was not his responsibility.
However, a judge ruled that he would face a jury trial. A trial date for the Blount family's lawsuit was scheduled for September, but a settlement was reached before then.
Ezra Blount attended the festival with his father, Treston, on November 5th, 2021, to see his favorite rapper perform.
During the crowd surge, both father and son were caught in the chaos. Treston lost consciousness but survived, while Ezra was tragically trampled and died after spending several days in a coma.
The Blount family's attorney, Bob Hilliard, previously shared a heartbreaking letter to Scott's legal team in 2021.
The letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, described Ezra's death as "a faucet of unimaginable that has no off handle." Hilliard also wrote about the unimaginable pain suffered by Treston Blount, who was left grappling with the possibility that his son's final moments were filled with terror and isolation.
This settlement brings an end to a lengthy legal battle for the Blount family.
