Eleven perish in Muzaffargarh road crash

Twelve others sustain serious injuries; all victims belonged to same family

MULTAN:

At least eleven members of the same family died and twelve others suffered severe injuries on Saturday when the passenger van they were travelling in rammed into a truck in Punjab’s Muzaffargarh district.

According to Express News, the tragic incident occurred near Mohammad Wala on MM Road in Muzaffargarh.

Following the incident, Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at the scene and began transferring the bodies and the injured to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed.

However, as Rescue 1122 had only one ambulance, local residents also helped transfer the dead and injured to the hospital using their personal vehicles.

The deceased were later identified as Saima, Zeba, Muhammad Aslam, Saeem, Shehnaz,, Dilbar Hussain, Sajjad, Namal, Umair, Hanifa and Hanifa Dilawar.

The injured included Ali Haider, Sameer Ahmed, Jibran, Aneesa, Shafiq, Razia, Fahad, Sehr Shafiq, Shamim Akhtar, Razia, Benish Aslam, and Warsha Batool.

Police reported that the individuals in the passenger van were from Basti Lar in Multan and belonged to the same family. They were travelling from Multan to Bhakkar to visit their relatives.

Eyewitnesses stated that the accident occurred due to the presence of stones and debris on the road, where repair work being done by the National Highway Authority (NHA) is facing delays.

Road accidents are a significant issue in Pakistan, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported annually. Factors contributing to these accidents include poor road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate enforcement of traffic laws.

Despite various measures and campaigns to improve road safety, accidents remain a major concern, highlighting the need for more effective strategies and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
