Chris Pratt recently shared with E! News the distinct differences he experiences in raising his 11-year-old son Jack, whom he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris, and his daughters Lyla, 3, and Eloise, 23 months, with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.
The "Garfield" movie star, who is still learning about the nuances of parenthood, noted, "I hate to make generalizations based on gender but, in my experience, girls are more emotional. They've got me wrapped around their finger. It's wild." He observed that while all his children are "cuddly and snuggly," his daughters require a gentler approach and prefer stories over roughhousing. "I'll hit them with a pillow and they'll go, 'Daddy, that hurt my feelings,'" Pratt explained.
Pratt also highlighted the need for more planning in the daily lives of his daughters, crediting their organizational skills to their mother, Katherine. He remarked, "My two girls take after their mother, who is incredibly organized." He further emphasized the individuality of each child, saying, "Even the differences between my two daughters just goes to show that every child is a little bit different."
Parenthood has influenced Pratt's career choices, making him more inclined towards voiceover work, such as his role in the upcoming "Garfield" movie. "It works nicely to have a job that allows me to put my kids to bed at night and be present," Pratt shared, noting that voice roles enable him to avoid being on the road.
At the "Garfield" premiere on May 19, Pratt discussed his upbringing and its impact on his parenting style. "I think there's a new age of parenting," he told E! News. Reflecting on his childhood, he said, "I did exactly what my parents said all the time. I never knew I could say 'no' to my parents." He aims to raise his children in a way that allows them to express themselves, though he humorously admitted, "They still know the meaning of the word 'no' from their mom. When it comes from me, they don't seem to know what that means."
Pratt and Schwarzenegger, who were married in June 2019 after meeting at church, welcomed their first daughter Lyla in August 2020 and their second daughter Eloise in May 2022. Pratt also has a son, Jack, from his previous marriage to Anna Faris.
Speaking about his children, Pratt said, "They are cute and they're wonderful. They're sweet, polite, kind, joyous little angels, and I love them." He described his decision to take on the role of Garfield as an "easy" one, motivated by the opportunity to share the experience with his kids. "It's one of the reasons it's such an easy yes,"
Pratt told E! News. "If a job like this comes across, you know, I say, 'Wow, of course I would love to lend my voice and spirit to this iconic character.' And it's all the better that my children can watch this movie and go, 'Whoa, that was my dad who did that. That's good. That's neat.'"
The "Garfield" movie is set to hit theaters on May 24.
