Ayo Edebiri is shutting down rumours of a feud with Jennifer Lopez.

Recently, a clip resurfaced from a 2020 podcast, ‘Scam Goddess,’ where Edebiri, then 24, agreed with the host's comment calling J.Lo's career a “scam.”

About Lopez, Edebiri said on the podcast, “Well, that’s the thing — she thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.”

She added, “A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.”

The clip resurfaced around the same time as Edebiri guest hosting Saturday Night Live with Lopez as the musical guest.

In a cover interview for Vanity Fair, Edebiri jokingly discussed the feud in a game show sketch, “That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger beefing — and I’m obviously Mr. Bean. She’s J.Lo!”

The actor also referenced the incident head-on during her SNL stint, “OK, OK, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”

Lopez, for her part, seemed unfazed by the whole thing. When asked about the rumoured tension, she confirmed that Edebiri had apologised, which Edebiri herself mentioned to Vanity Fair, saying that Lopez was “very chill and nice about it.”

Despite the controversy surrounding Edebiri’s guest appearance on SNL, the actor also spoke about how it fulfilled her childhood dreams.

“SNL is something that in my bones, I dreamed of as a comedian, as a young kid,” she said. “That to me is a pinnacle of success.”
