Victoria Monet - John Gaines controversy: did Victoria Monet steal John from another woman?

An anonymous post on Lipstick Alley's Facebook group has fans labelling the 'MONOPOLY' singer a homewrecker.

Victoria Monet has been on and off with boyfriend John Gaines after he starred in her music video. The pair have also welcomed a baby girl together. However, a post on the Lipstick Alley Facebook group has recently resurfaced, sparking speculation among fans on X about whether Monet might have taken Gaines from another woman.

The post, originally shared in 2020 read:

“Y’all I am very very livid! So I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that Victoria Monet is pergnant and seen her baby daddy hugging up on her stomach all over social media- So I just found out that the man John Gaines (gainsby gains) is my cousins ex boyfriend.”

The post then alleges that when Monet met Gaines on the set of her music video “Moment”, Gaines was still in another relationship.

The user explained that in January, when Gaines flew to Africa to film the video, he didn't take his then-girlfriend with him. This was unusual because they had been dating for years, and she had always accompanied him to his modeling shoots, gigs, and other events.

The anonymous Facebook user also explains that after Gaines met Monet, he soon broke up with his partner, who happens to be the user's cousin.

“This ***** comes home, breaks up with her out of no where and starts kiking with Victoria on the gram/Twitter.” adding that “Before Victoria told everyone she was pregnant he tried to get back with my cousin and told her everything.”

Post also mentioned that Gaines referred to Victoria as a "floozy" and stated that he "DID NOT want to keep the baby."

Questioning the morals of the "On My Mama" singer, the social media user concluded the post expressing her disappointment, stating, "It's disappointing to know she'd be okay with being involved with a taken man who clearly does not have her or her child's interests at heart."

Victoria Monet and John Gaines’ relationship

After maintaining a low profile at the beginning of their relationship, the couple reportedly met on the set of Monet’s music video, “Moment.”

They announced their pregnancy in December 2020 and welcomed their daughter, Hazel, in February 2021.

Gaines celebrated Hazel's arrival on Instagram, posting a photo of her tiny hand wrapped around Monet’s finger with the caption: “I love you @victoriamonet. Thank you for the best early birthday gift I could ask for. #girldad”

While they have not yet married, Monet shared in a September 2021 interview with Essence that marrying Gaines is “the plan, for sure.”
