The Disney+ show is set in the High Republic era, a century before ‘The Phantom Menace.’

The new trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has been released, showcasing an addition to the ‘Star Wars’ universe: the first live-action lightsaber whip.

The Disney+ series is set during the High Republic era, a period of prosperity and growth for the Jedi, approximately a century before the events depicted in the 1999 prequel, ‘The Phantom Menace.’

The series’ narrative focuses on the emergence of a formidable dark power during this time of light, following a Jedi master on a quest to locate a former Padawan who has fallen to the dark side.

The show’s cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Charlie Barnett and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The newly released 30-second trailer not only reintroduces the premise of the series but also features a significant reveal.

In a brief wide shot from above, a character is seen wielding a lightsaber that extends and becomes flexible, functioning like a whip.

This innovative weapon marks the first appearance of such a device in live-action within the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, adding a fresh element to the series.

The inclusion of the lightsaber whip not only adds a novel combat element but also signifies the series' commitment to expanding the ‘Star Wars’ mythos in innovative ways.

As fans anticipate the show's debut, this trailer has heightened excitement about the new directions ‘The Acolyte’ will take within the beloved universe.
