Taking up Tyrian case again bid to keep Imran in jail: PTI
The PTI on Saturday voiced serious concerns over the Islamabad High Court taking up the Tyrian White case again against incarcerated party founding chairman Imran Khan, claiming it was an “unjust” attempt to keep him imprisoned.
A day earlier, the IHC -- after a delay of a year -- scheduled for hearing a petition against Imran for concealing his alleged daughter Tyrian. In May last year, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq dissolved a three-member bench hearing the case as the other two judges ruled against the petition’s maintainability without consulting him.
The IHC CJ’s office had the verdict removed from the court’s website and issued a statement that a new bench would be formed to hear the matter.
On Friday, the IHC formed a new larger bench headed by Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri to hear the case.
A spokesperson for the party, in a strongly-worded statement, criticised the move as a “desperate and baseless” effort by Imran’s opponents, who had already faced setbacks in other legal battles, including the Toshakhana, cipher, and Al-Qadir Trust cases, to keep him behind the bars.
He accused the IHC chief justice of bias, claiming that his decision to form a new bench to hear the Tyrian case, despite an “existing” verdict by a three-judge bench, demonstrated partiality against the PTI founding chairman.
Highlighting further concerns, the PTI representative noted a letter from six IHC judges that alleged interference and pressure from the security apparatus in judicial affairs.
He argued that such revelations stripped away any legal or moral justification for continuing with the Tyrian case.

The spokesperson denounced the ongoing filing of what he described as “bogus cases” including the Tyrian and Iddat ones against Imran.
He added that these actions revealed the “moral degradation” of those seeking revenge against the PTI founding chairman.
He claimed that like in many of the nearly 200 cases against Imran, the plaintiff in the Tyrian case remained unidentified but appeared to benefit from the support of state lawyers.
However, the petitioner in the Tyrian case has repeatedly been identified in news reports as well as court papers as one Muhammad Sajid.
Condemning the formation of a new bench for a case already “deemed non-maintainable”, the PTI spokesperson called the decision “illegal” and “unacceptable”.
He demanded the immediate dismissal of the Tyrian case, saying that it should be dropped in “accordance with legal standards”.
Separately, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has raised serious concerns regarding recent mob violence targeting international students, including Pakistanis, in Bishkek.
He called on the foreign affairs ministry to urgently ensure the safety and security of Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan as well as to facilitate their safe return home.
Gohar maintained that the Pakistani students had reached out to him, describing the precarious security situation in Kyrgyzstan.
