Tony award-winning actress Sutton Foster will star in a new adaptation of the musical "Once Upon a Mattress" on Broadway this summer.

The production, featuring a revised book by Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Gilmore Girls," "Bunheads," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"), will play a limited engagement at the Hudson Theatre from July 31 to November 30, 2024.

Following the Broadway run, the production will move to Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre for a four-week run from December 10, 2024 to January 5, 2025.

"Once Upon a Mattress" is a comedic take on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea."

The original production featured music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and a book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. It debuted on Broadway in 1959 with Carol Burnett as Princess Winnifred.

This new adaptation is directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Lorin Latarro. Scenic design will be by David Zinn, lighting design by Justin Townsend, costume design by Andrea Hood, and sound design by Kai Harada. Casting for the production besides Foster has not yet been announced.
