In the wake of his latest role in Gentleman, the first episode of which aired on May 12, television and film star Humayun Saeed had nothing but appreciation for the performance and work ethic of his co-star Yumna Zaidi.

Working with Yumna on screen for the first time, the Mere Paas Tum Ho star revealed, “She is always on time and very hard-working. I'm the same, and it makes me so happy to see other actors like me in the field.”

Punctuality and a sense of grit are two values highly prized by Humayun, who stressed that he felt gratified at working with a fellow actor who shared his own sense of dedication to the craft. Speaking in an interview with Ambreen Fatima on her official YouTube channel, Humayun remarked, “Yumna has always been known for her stellar acting, and people have admired her for it. I had always admired her too, but when I started working with her, I could see that she spends all day perfecting her scenes, and not in the make-up room. I'm the same."

Yumna made waves amongst her fans after her gripping performance in Tere Bin. In Gentleman, the actor plays the role of Zarnab, a journalist, opposite Humayun’s Munna. According to Humayun, based on Yumna’s showbiz track record, no other actor had been considered for the role.

“I had only ever heard good things about her,” admitted Humayun. “From the beginning, I know that the role was made for her.” Consulting Yumna on the project, Humayun explained that he had asked her to consider the script, bearing in mind that she was perfect for the part. “When she read the script, she absolutely wanted to do it,” revealed Humayun. “She said it would be a challenge, and that the scenes we written very well.”

Humayun remained tight-lipped about the rest of the show, wanting audiences to organically come to their own conclusions as the episodes are released on a weekly basis. However, he promised a riveting tale with characters that would give viewers pause for thought.

“My character Munna is very interesting,” he explained. “I always choose my projects based on both the script and the character. Here I could see that the script was great overall and likewise the character had a great arc. But I don’t want to give away too much!”

Gentleman marks Humayun’s television comeback after a three-year hiatus. The opening episode was released last week, and the show will continue to air every Sunday evening. The first-time collaboration between Humayun and Yumna has sent fans buzzing, and the anticipation for what the rest of the show will bring is at an all-time high.
