In a recent episode of the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper, Avril Lavigne tackled the bizarre and persistent conspiracy theory that she was replaced by a lookalike named Melissa Vandella back in 2003.

The rumor, which gained traction online, suggested that Lavigne had died and was substituted by Vandella, who had previously served as a body double to help evade the paparazzi.

"I mean, it's just funny to me," said the 39-year-old singer, dismissing the theory.

"Like, on one end, everyone's like, 'You look the same, you haven't aged a day.'

But then other people are like, there's a conspiracy theory that I'm not me. Honestly, it's not that bad. It could be worse, right? I kind of feel like I got a good one. I don't think it's negative or anything creepy. We're good."

The theory originated from a Brazilian blog in 2011, which claimed "Avril is Dead" and was later picked up by BuzzFeed News in 2015.

According to the rumor, Lavigne had supposedly taken her own life in 2003 following her grandfather's death, prompting her record label to replace her with Vandella to maintain her career trajectory.

During the podcast, Lavigne reassured listeners and debunked the hoax with a laugh: "Obviously, I am me. It's so dumb. I knew you half believed it."

Cooper, visibly awed by Lavigne's unchanged appearance over the years, noted, "I'm staring at you and I'm picturing you with your auburn hair. And I'm like, 'Oh my god.' You literally look the same from when you were younger."
