Opp leaders meet senior anchorpersons
Opposition leaders met with senior anchorpersons on Thursday in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by Opposition leader in the National Assembly Omer Ayub, Tehreek Tahafuz Aien-e-Pakistan President Mahmood Khan Achakzai, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Sajid Khan Tareen President BNP (Mengal) along with leaders from other allied parties.
Speaking on the occasion, Omar sounded alarms over the current political situation in the country, citing concerns that they were not headed in the right direction.
“We are not a militant organisation, so whatever we do, the nature of the protests and resistance will be democratic,” he said.
“All parties agree that parliament should be supreme. They are a product of 2024 elections and that is why they have come together through this platform.”
The opposition leader in the NA called for honoring the 18th amendment while stressing national cohesion in the country.
Responding to a question, he said the alliance had two “clear demands”.

“Firstly, election results should be acknowledged based on Form 45. Secondly, Constitution must be respected.”
When asked about the possibility of a parliamentary committee to investigate rigging allegations, Omar said all the senior leadership of PML-N were the “beneficiaries of rigging”.
“How will these beneficiaries negotiate with us? There will be no use for such a committee,” he remarked.
Achakzai emphasized this was the time when everyone should unite for the restoration of Constitution.
“There are now attempts to bring about changes in the 18th amendment. There is only one slogan for which we have come together and it is parliament’s supremacy,” he said.
Achakzai said it seemed PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had been “punished” by authorities for his past, thus preventing him from assuming the role of premier.
