Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian among celebs blocked on social media over Gaza war
Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian are experiencing a significant mass blocking on social media platforms, largely due to their stance on the Israel-Palestine war.
This decline in followers aligns with a broader trend of boycotting celebrities, particularly noticeable after the recent Met Gala, where regular social media users mobilized to block numerous A-listers.
According to TMZ, the primary reason for fans unfollowing their favorite celebrities is the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with many feeling that Hollywood's elite have not adequately supported Palestine.
Swift and Kardashian have been among the hardest hit in terms of lost followers, each losing upwards of 100,000, TMZ reports.
While this might seem like a relatively small loss considering their massive follower counts, proponents of the movement hope that sustained unfollowing will impact celebrities' earnings from sponsored content in the long run.
Both Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift have mostly remained silent regarding the Gaza war.
However, Kim made a statement supporting freedom when a pro-Palestine protester disrupted her event in Germany earlier this month.
Taylor, on the other hand, has not addressed the issue. Despite this, Swift’s "Eras" tour movie continued to be shown in Israel after the Oct. 7 attacks and subsequent fallout.
TMZ observes that many young people online are displeased with their reactions, or lack thereof, to the turmoil and are now attempting to diminish their follower counts in response.
However, whether this strategy will prove effective remains uncertain.
