The "Game of Thrones" universe is set to expand once more with HBO confirming that "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" is well into production, eyeing a release in 2025.

HBO executive Casey Bloys delivered this exciting news during the network’s upfront presentations on Wednesday, as reported by The Wrap. He remarked, "The show will air sometime in 2025."

Set about 90 years before the original "Game of Thrones" series, "The Hedge Knight" promises to bridge the gap between the original and "House of the Dragon," which takes place 200 years prior.

This new series will focus on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, known affectionately as "Dunk," played by Peter Claffey, and his squire, a young prince named Aegon Targaryen, or "Egg," portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell.

"The Hedge Knight" is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella series, often referred to as "The Tales of Dunk & Egg." The series currently includes three novellas, all collected in the book.

"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." Martin, who serves as a writer and executive producer, has hinted at expanding this series with up to nine more novellas, promising a bombshell revelation for the main series, "A Song of Ice and Fire."

Unlike its predecessors with their vast ensemble casts, "The Hedge Knight" will closely follow Dunk's perspective. The story starts with Dunk, an impoverished knight, attending his first tourney as an underdog, with Egg, a mysterious young boy, in tow, pleading to be his squire.

As fans await this new chapter in Westeros, HBO is also gearing up for the premiere of "House of the Dragon" Season 2, set to air on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

With an eight-episode order similar to the upcoming second season of "House of the Dragon," it appears that the era of 10-episode seasons may be drawing to a close for the franchise.
