Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has sought a monthly schedule for implementing a five-year education reforms plan.

Presiding over a meeting in which the public schools reorganisation programme was comprehensively reviewed, she approved a proposal to give 32,298 computer tabs to the heads of primary schools.

It was agreed in the meeting to set up science technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and information technology labs in 1,000 elementary schools. The Asian Development Bank will provide financial assistance for establishing the STEM Labs.

The provincial school education secretary apprised the participants about the progress being made on a schools nutrition project.

Approval in principle was granted for the Google Certification Agreement for 300,000 children of the government schools. The students will be provided opportunities to avail Google Certification under the Digital Journey for Tech Valley Project.

Recommendations for the establishment of a Punjab education, curriculum and training body were reviewed.

The participants were informed that more than 92 per cent of the free books for school students had been delivered. The CM stressed the need to improve the quality of education in the government schools.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also met the Senior Vice President of a German Multinational Company, Metro, Ivonne Julitta Bollow, and reviewed matters pertaining to exploring possibilities of collaboration to generate employment opportunities.

The promotion of investment and economic progress in Punjab was discussed in the meeting.

CM Maryam Nawaz said, “A conducive environment for investment is provided in Punjab. All out assistance will be provided for foreign investment and business extension.”

She said an enforcement authority was being established for the elimination of hoarding and price hike.

She said an extension project of then German firm in Punjab would generate employment and other opportunities for the people of the province.”

The company’s official said it was providing opportunities for the promotion of small and medium businesses in Punjab by offering numerous services to the business-to-business (B2B) segments in Pakistan.
