Tom Brady regrets comedy roast after family backlash
Former NFL star and father of three, Tom Brady, has opened up about the personal repercussions following his participation in a comedy roast on Sunday, May 5.
Reflecting on the event during a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, the 46-year-old expressed mixed feelings about the jokes made during the special.
"I loved when the jokes were about me I thought they were so fun," Brady remarked. However, the content of the roast did not sit well with his children. "I didn't like the way that affected my kids. So it's the hardest part about, like, the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way, and then all of a sudden you realise I wouldn't do that again because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world."
Brady admitted to not seeing the "full picture" when he agreed to participate in the roast, which was influenced by his acquaintance with comedian Jeff Ross.
"I wanted to do the roast because the guy Jeff Ross became someone that I knew, and then you just don't see the full picture all the time. So I think it's a good lesson for me as a parent. I'm going to be a better parent as I go forward because of it, and at the same time, I'm happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun," he added.
The special also included pointed humor about Brady’s personal life, including his October 2022 divorce from Gisele Bündchen, which sources say left Bündchen "deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family.
" Concerned about the impact on their children, a source close to Bündchen shared, "As always, Bündchen's priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted."
Brady, father to Benjamin, 14, and Vivian, 11, with Bündchen, and Jack, 16, with ex Bridget Moynahan, also shared some insights on locker room camaraderie and positivity. "Athletes love laughing in the locker room," said Brady, emphasizing the importance of celebrating success and fostering hope.
