“Hana-Kimi” manga gets anime adaptation, confirmed to stream on Crunchyroll
A long-awaited anime adaptation of Hisaya Nakajo's beloved shojo manga “Hana-Kimi” (For You in Full Bloom) was officially announced today, on May 15, according to Crunchyroll’s official website.
The news comes nearly two decades after the manga's conclusion and just months after Nakajo's passing in October 2023.
While a release date, cast, and staff haven't been revealed yet, the anime is confirmed to stream on Crunchyroll upon its premiere.
The announcement coincides with the 20th anniversary of “Hana-Kimi’s” manga ending, making it a bittersweet celebration for fans.
The Hana to Yume editorial department expressed their gratitude for the continued support and acknowledged the late author's involvement in the early stages of the project.
“Hana-Kimi” follows the story of Mizuki, a track-and-field athlete who transfers to an all-boys’ school in Japan in order to be closer to her high jump idol, Izumi Sano.
However, Mizuki has to disguise herself as a boy to pull it off. She navigates dorm life, hiding her secret identity, and keeping her feelings for Sano in check.
Originally serialised from 1996 to 2004, “Hana-Kimi” has already garnered a dedicated fanbase through its 23 volumes and multiple live-action adaptations across Asia.
The upcoming anime aims to make records with a whole new generation.
