The former federal minister, Babar Awan, asserted that the government was capable of tackling the Karachi issue. He was talking to the media outside the Karachi registry of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He said that no outsider can save the country, except the elected representatives. The present government has shut all doors to martial law through the 18th constitutional amendment, said Awan. He extended his full support to the apex court for its suo motu proceedings regarding Karachi violence. He asked why no suo motu notices of big tragedies like the twin attacks on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s convoy and suicide blasts in Lahore on the Data Darbar have been taken. He suggested that the court also take notice of the Quetta situation.
