Bruce Springsteen covers A Rainy Night In Soho by The Pogues
Rock superstar Bruce Springsteen has resumed touring with his E Street Band.
Last night, Bruce Springsteen and his band honored a recently deceased Irish legend at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, Ireland.
They said goodbye to Shane MacGowan by performing a Pogues classic that they had never played live before.
Shane MacGowan, the frontman of the Pogues, passed away last year at 65.
Following his death, Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to him on his website: “Over here on E Street, we are heartbroken over the death of Shane MacGowan. Shane was one of my all-time favorite writers. The passion and deep intensity of his music and lyrics is unmatched by all but the very best in the rock and roll canon.”
It hasn't been a century, but Springsteen performed one of MacGowan's songs last night.
Springsteen and his band performed "A Rainy Night In Soho," the poignant 1986 classic by the Pogues. As reported by Stereogum, Springsteen began the set with this cover without introduction, yet the crowd instantly recognized it and joined in the singalong.
