Donald Glover has unexpectedly released a new album under his stage name Childish Gambino, titled Atavista.

On a post made on X on 12 May, Glover announced to his fans, “AVISTA is streaming now.”

In the same announcement, the artist behind "Redbone" described the album as the completed version of "3.15.20," the album released four years ago. He mentioned that it includes revamped tracks from the 2020 album, along with the new song "Little Foot Big Foot."

Fans were excited as the Grammy-winning artist also released a music video for the track featuring Young Nudy.

The song comes with a black-and-white music video directed by longtime collaborator Hiro Murai, featuring Quinta Brunson, Monyett Crump, Rob Bynes, and others.

Earlier this year, Glover revealed his plans to release two albums before retiring the Childish Gambino name: Atavista and Bando Stone & the New World. The latter will accompany his upcoming movie of the same name, scheduled for release this summer.

Atavista is a revised edition of the album Gambino released four years ago, titled 3.15.20, which coincided with the start of the pandemic.

The updated version of the project includes new production arrangements and features additional guests, including Atlanta rapper Yung Nudy.

Initially launched in 2020, the tracklist included songs named after their timestamp in the album's overall timeline, which appeared to significantly affect the album's replay value at the time.

“That’s just what I was going through,” Gambino explained to Complex last year when asked about his approach. “People are always going to want what they want, but I have to express what I’m going through. I had just lost my father, I had just had a kid, and I was going through a lot. I was having a lot of different new experiences and that’s what I expressed."
