Friends star Matthew Perry honoured at BAFTA Television Awards

The late actor Matthew Perry was given an "In Memoriam" tribute, featuring clips from his role as Chandler Bing.

The British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA TV Awards) paid a heartfelt tribute to the late actor Matthew Perry, known for his beloved role as Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom 'Friends.'

During the "In Memoriam" segment of the awards show, a montage of clips featuring Perry as Chandler was accompanied by a reimagined version of the iconic 'Friends' theme song.

The tribute celebrated Perry's contributions to television, honouring his career and the laughter he brought to audiences worldwide.

Perry passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54 from the acute effects of ketamine. His death sparked a renewed appreciation for his openness about his struggles with addiction and his dedication to helping others facing similar challenges.

The BAFTA tribute rectified an earlier omission at the BAFTA film awards in February, where Perry was not included in the "In Memoriam" segment.

The organisation clarified that his contribution to television would be recognized at the TV awards ceremony instead.

This touching tribute serves as a reminder of Matthew Perry's enduring legacy as a talented actor and a compassionate advocate for those battling addiction.
