E-balloting of applicants for give motorbikes to students on interest-free soft instalments was conducted by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan.
The e-balloting of the applications for e-bikes and petrol bikes was conducted for four categories for male and female students by pressing a button.
The vice chancellors of various universities along with students were present on the occasion.
The provincial minister said the Punjab CM was taking laudable steps for women’s empowerment.
He said the government was introducing schemes for the working women and differently-abled people.
Bilal Akbar expressed his gratitude to the VCs and college principals for cooperating in organising road shows for the motorbike scheme, asserting that the initiative would not only help bring out infrastructural but cultural transformation.
He said the number of e-bikes would be increased in the second phase of the scheme.
Transport Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi said male and female students would be provided 1,000 electric and 19,000 petrol bikes e-balloting.
Electric bikes will be given to students of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur divisions.
About 190,000 students from all districts had submitted applications for the motorbikes.
The minister said online sessions would be organised to inform the students and their parents about the initiative.
Officials of the PITB, traffic police, information, finance and excise departments and PHEC were also present on the occasion.
