Balochistan denounces May 9 vandalism

Resolution demands action against perpetrators

PESHAWAR/QUETTA:

The Balochistan Assembly on Thursday called for action against the planners and architects of the elements involved in the May 9 tragedy.

The house adopted a unanimous resolution against the May 9 untoward incidents and demanded stern action against its perpetrators.

Chief Minister Balochistan in his lengthy speech lashed out at the perpetrators of the May 9 tragedy. “This house demands stern action against the elements behind the tragedy,” the chief minister said.

The Balochistan Minister and the Central Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Mir Sadiq Umrani, tabled the resolution in the house. Speaking on the feasibility of the resolution, Umrani said under a pre-planned conspiracy national monuments and other memorials of martyrs were targeted last year.

“This house should demand strict action against the perpetrators of the May 9 vandalism,” Umrani demanded.

All members from the treasury and opposition strongly criticized the chief of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and its central leadership for what they claimed desecrating national memorials relating to the martyrs of the country.

“We want an investigation into those untoward incidents,” Ali Madad Jattak, the Balochistan Agriculture Minister and a leader of the PPP demanded. He said a person was punished for three years for desecrating a memory in the United States. He said the accused was a supporter of the former US President Donald Trump.

Bakht Muhammad Kakar, a young parliamentarian from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said his party has never thought of targeting national symbols despite the martyrdom of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

“This is treason to target memorials of martyrs of army who sacrificed their lives to defend the motherland,” Kakar said.

Mir Asim Kurd Gailo, another lawmaker from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, termed the May 9 a conspiracy against national institutions and stability and solidarity of the country. He demanded strict action against the elements behind the tragedy.

The Deputy Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Ghazala Gola put the resolution for voting and the house unanimously passed the draft.

Meanwhile, like the rest of the country, first anniversary of the May 9 riots and vandalism was observed across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi Thursday visited the mausoleum of martyred Captain Karnal Sher Khan and laid flowers on the martyr’s grave and recited Fatiha.

The events of May 9 have damaged the reputation of the country, the Governor said while talking to the media men on the occasion.

One year ago today, the interests of the enemies of the country were fulfilled by setting fire to the country, Kundi said.

The whole nation is waiting for the punishment of the evil elements of May 9 from the state and the courts, Faisal Karim Kundi said.

“If the evil anti-national elements of May 9 are not punished, tomorrow some other group will come out for such a heinous conspiracy,” the governor said and added, one year ago today, the martyrs’ statues and memorials were burnt by wounding the hearts of the heirs of the martyrs.
