RAWALPINDI:

The court of Civil Judge Dr Muhammad Mumtaz Hanjra adjourned the hearing of the case against Farah Zahra, a female suspect, who had sped away after hitting a motorway police officer and was subsequently arrested months after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.

Sources said the accused has also filed a bail plea in the sessions court which is expected to be heard the next day.

On Thursday, the civil court rejected her bail application. At the onset of the hearing, the accused was brought to the court from jail under strict security. The accused requested the court that she should be kept in a rest house instead of a jail.

The court remarked that it was beyond its power to pass such an order. “You are an educated woman. You can meet your family in the court and stay in the courtroom as long as you want,” the court told the female suspect.

Meanwhile, the court ordered the investigation officer of the case to present the challan on the next date. The case was registered at the Naseerabad police station on January 1, 2024, on the complaint of the highway police but the accused could not be arrested.

After 112 days, the incident went viral on social media and the 113th day the police arrested the woman who was subsequently sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand.
