X-Men ‘97 is nearing the end of its first season with Episode 10 on the horizon, and Marvel Animation is already well into planning Season 2.
In Episode 9, Professor Xavier faces a major ethical dilemma when he realises Magneto is beyond reasoning.
Xavier delves into Magneto’s mind to undo the damage to Earth’s electromagnetic field, a decision that will surely have significant consequences.
This episode draws inspiration from the 1993 comic book crossover "Fatal Attractions."
In that story, Magneto removes the adamantium from Wolverine’s bones, prompting Xavier to wipe Magneto’s mind.
However, this action inadvertently creates a new villain, Onslaught, a fusion of Xavier and Magneto’s darkest aspects.
Episode 9 hints at this twist with Xavier entering Magneto’s mind, possibly setting the stage for Onslaught’s emergence.
If Xavier reacts strongly to Wolverine’s injuries, Onslaught may make an appearance in the finale.
Onslaught poses a significant threat, comparable to Bastion, and in the comics, his power necessitated an alliance between the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four to stop him.
With Captain America already appearing in X-Men ‘97, it’s likely that more Avengers could join the storyline involving Onslaught. This could also pave the way for further connections between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, possesses reality-warping mutant abilities.
In the comics, he plays a pivotal role in defeating Onslaught, suggesting that his introduction in the series may be imminent.
The final episode of X-Men '97, Episode 10, will premiere on Disney+ on May 15th.
